CrossFit Total

We did a CrossFit Total (max back squat, deadlift, and press) last week. Here is a shot of Rick setting, he eventually pulled 356 and totaled 731 at 170lbs.
Check out kettlebells in the Wall Street Journal. Any press is good press but the talk of danger in the swing is silly at best. I have taught the swing to well over 100 people in the last 3 years and I have yet to see an injury. Plus, a lot of those people were not exercising before they started with KBs.

Father and Son Workouts

Joel and his son Cody have been attending the evening CrossFit class since just before the beginning of the year. They’ve both seen marked improvements in strength, flexibility, coordination, and cardiovascular endurance. Plus, I believe they both enjoy the opportunity for some father-and-son time. In this photo they were alternating between 10 reps of deadlift and 10 reps of bench press for 10 rounds. Strong work!
The Stare

Just this morning I was telling our newest member Jen about the “tool stare down” also known as the “CrossFitter gaze”. After she left I uploaded the pictures from this past Saturday’s workout only to see her staring down the box during a break in her box jumps. I think Travis just finished his jumps in this photo but he might be giving the box a bit of the death stare out of the corner of his eye.
All of our athletes do it and the better you get the less staring you’ll do. Why stare at the implement when you could be doing another rep? Easier said that done, I know.
Welcome to CrossFit Jen. Its nice to have the law enforcement community starting to join us!
In the comments Jon points out an amazing video of a firefighter over at Albany CrossFit. Check out their post on “Quitting” too and you’ll read about another CrossFit “stare. The look you get from the uninitiated when you try to explain your workout. The dumbfounded stare usually goes with questions like “You did what?” or “That was one workout? 100 reps?”

Here is a shot of the 5:30 crew getting started on a couplet of thrusters and swings.
CrossFit was in the Washington Post last week and the article was reprinted by the Denver Post this Sunday. I have a copy at the gym or you can see it online here. The printed copy has more photos of CrossFit Denver.

I did not get many posts in last week due to lots of training with new members and some CrossFit evangelizing but there was still lots of hard working going on. Here are some photos:
