“Eva”

5 rounds for time:

  • Run 800 meters
  • 30 Swings, 2 pood KB
  • 30 Pull-ups

The high Wednesday is supposed to be 27 degrees but a possible wind chill of -2. So we expect and will probably encourage rowing 750m instead of the run. Yeah, an 800 meter run would typically be a 1k row but Eva is a rough lady. Tuesday was a shorter workout with some gymnastics practice and Thursday will probably be weightlifting practice so feel free to go hard on Eva. Not that you wouldn’t anyway.

Seriously, exercise some caution with this one. As we like to say you are the best judge of your ability and no single day’s effort speaks of your true capacity. If you are ready to walk that edge go for it if not there is no shame is scaling.

Remember when it was warm outside?

My hat’s off to all who complete Eva today. This week I am flying all day every day delivering Santa’s goodies so am limited to pushups/situps/squats/handstands for time etc. in the hotel room. 5 rounds of rowing with 2 pood kb swings and 30 pullups each round is one for the books. See you sometime next week.

I’m wimping out on Eva….I don’t think my hamstrings and biceps can handle it today. I’m still recovering from Linda…OMG! I’ll be thinking of you all while I sip my latte:)

Everyone has done such an awesome job with Eva today.. I’m truly impressed! The early morning classes braved the cold and opted for the run (even Tracee in shorts!) Great job everyone and keep the positive attitude up :)

First of all, Ayn, you AREN’T a wimp. Linda scared me so much I didn’t even go in to meet her! Actually my hands were still suffering from Saturday. But let me tell you, Eva wasn’t any easier on me! I did indeed have to scale the KB and used the band, and she STILL kicked my ass! Thanks for the motivation this morning Crystal! I think I discovered that if you run in shorts when it’s 5 degrees outside, they go numb and you can’t feel anything anyway :)

By the Way, I LOVE this picture of you guys! I don’t think you worked hard enough b/c you are all smiling!

Today Eva reminded me of what it was like when I first started CrossFit. Every workout was long and grueling.

I used those rubber hand pads for the pull ups in rounds 2-5. They made a HUGE difference. I never used them in a workout before. Usually I crap out around 70-90 pull-ups because my grip dies and my skin starts to peal off. I had no skin problems and my grip felt like I did 75, not 150, pull-ups.

Is there a link between grip fatigue and losing skin?
Do other people notice a huge difference with those pads?
    Are they cheating???

I heard a guy say on Crossfit Radio that the key to saving your hands was to grip the bars harder/ increase your grip. Basically grip harder=less friction=less hand mutilation. He admitted that once your grip poops out then your hands are shredded. That all sounds great in theory, but can’t imagine a lot of women having that kind of grip strength, especially with out smaller hands.

I sure hope those grippies aren’t cheating, I love them! But I’ve noticed they can burn your hands in a different way than the bar.

  8. Tracee Carroll says:

Ayn, CrossFit Radio? Man, I thought I was the junkie! Where can I listen? I’ve never heard of it before. I hope the grippies aren’t cheating too. All I know is that if your hands are sweaty and you don’t chalk up, it’s worse than no grippie.:)

Tracee, the CrossFit Radio MP3s are posted weekly to http://journal.crossfit.com/ they also archive under the “affiliation” category:

    http://journal.crossfit.com/affiliation/

They are a free download. I haven’t listened to all of them yet but I wasn’t impressed with the ones I did listen to. Your mileage may vary.

Ayn, are you a fan of CF Radio? Any particular episode you really liked?
