What is a ‘pood’? i would like to follow these workouts but i dont know what some of the lingo is.

Also, what is a thruster? i cannot access the crossfit website so kind of limited in that regard. Help please.

    Dustin,

A pood is 16 kilograms. A thruster, put simply, is a front squat with a push press at the top. However, in practice the movements are blended so the hip drive from the front squat propels the bar overhead.

I’m curious why you cannot access crossfit.com and why you picked emerfit’s workouts to follow. Are you in Colorado?

    Hi Chris,

thanks for the comment. I only have internet access at work and for some reason, i dont have any idea why, the crossfit main site is blocked by our network. I hate it but dont have a choice in the matter.

I picked emerift because i do live in colorado and used to live in fort collins. If i had known about emefit prior to leaving i would have joined. I only started doing crossfit a month ago and have been geting my ace kicked. I love it though.

Now that i know what a thruster is i will start doing them. I have been personal training for a long time so i do understand form and mechanics and will watch myself on the first few, i just had no idea what they were.

Why is 16 kilograms called a pood? Where does that term come from? So 35 lbs for 1 handed snatchs seems like a lot?!?! i may have to scale down til i get the form right.

    Anyway, thanks again.

    Dustin,

A pood is a Russian unit of measure that happens to equal 16 kilos. For men the standard KB snatch weight is 24 kilos and advanced is 32 kilos. The technique for a KB snatch is quite different from a DB or Barbell snatch.

    Good luck with your training!

    Chris
