Have your hands healed?  There have been a lot of questions on how not to tear from kipping pull-ups.  Most likely, you will tear when first starting out because they may not be callused.  But, you can treat them so your recovery is fast.  Here’s an article on prevention and treatment so you can keep training hard!

I miss my gym and all my crazy fitness friends. Just got back to the Fort after 10 days away. Trying to catch up and digest all I learned at 2 certs with vacation sandwiched between.

So some of you tomorrow and the rest of you later this week.

With respect to the whole discussion on hands healing… I’ve had many a long conversation with many of you at EmerFit on this topic. Mike Estlick has me using the “ped egg” for a long time now. Brilliant suggestion Mike!

And, after visiting another CrossFit affiliate, I started following the articles the co-founder and head trainer I met places on their web site (they’re really good… a lot of them are actually submitted by their CrossFit clientele!) and, low and behold, one just came up about this exact same subject – taking care of your hands. Here’s the URL:

(Check out the comments to the article as they, too, offer some great suggestions.)

After having slipped off the bar yesterday after only 20 pull ups because my little gripper pads gave way, I’ve decided its time to bite the bullet and just toughen up my hands once and for all. I’m also considering experimenting with that liquid chalk product called tight grip.

    MMMM…vacation sandwich.

About the hands. After ripping mine open a few weeks ago I used the NU Skin Liquid bandage. It helped a lot. On the box it states that it may prevent callauses, so before a WOD with pullups last week, I painted my hands with some NU Skin, and it worked like a champ. I will be bringing some to the regionals and using prior to every pullup WOD now. If this little idea takes off I may have to package something up similar to the Paelo kits and sell them to other crossfitters, something along the lines of a calluse kit.
