The Sizzlin Summer Lean Out Challenge

It has been a while since our last challenge of any type, food or otherwise. So in July we are starting a food challenge and a pull-up challenge. Details of the pull-up challenge will be announced soon.

For our food challenge we are going to steal from Level 4 CrossFit up in Seattle.

The Rules

  • Eating: Paleo or Paleo with Zone
  • Cost: $30.00 to be put into a kitty
  • 3 ‘Before’ pictures taken the week of July 13th: front view, side view and back view. Men are in shorts and Women are in shorts and sports bra/bikini top
  • Each Sunday your food log for the week must be posted to the message board
  • 3 ‘After’ pictures are taken on September 3rd, 2009 (or within the next 2 days)
  • EmerFit trainers pick the top 5 people whose body composition changed the most
  • Summer Lean Out Challenge participants vote on the top 5 to determine the Winner and Runner-up

To Sign-Up
Write your name on the sign-up board at the front of the gym. Plan to have your photo taken before or after class the week of the 13th. Also plan to pitch in your $30 between now and the 13th. There are no refunds should you not manage to complete the challenge. All contributions will go to the winner as described in the rules.

Resources
All EmerFit members received information about Paleo and the Zone when you joined. For this reason we do not plan to have a initial informational meeting about the details of the diets. If you have questions feel free to ask your coaches. You might also find these online resources helpful:

So you’re sayin I gots 13 days to get as fat as I can possibly get? I’m on it!

  3. Chris on June 30th, 2009 2:51 pm

I knew someone would come to that conclusion. The goal was to give everyone time to read up, plan their shopping, and you know…pick an outfit for the photo. ;-)

I’m with you Chris C. The 4th is around the corner, and all the eating that comes with it, BBQ for time!

What are the rules regarding soy/tofu/whey protein during the challenge? (for those who tried to eat meat and hated it)

  6. Eric on July 1st, 2009 9:48 am

    Chris,

I was gonna register on-line, but your charging me shipping and handeling. Will that be corrected, or should I just cut you a check?

  7. Chris on July 1st, 2009 9:49 am

Rachel, there are no specific rules regarding soy/tofu/whey. Cavemen didn’t have any of those things so you won’t be doing Paleo but you can still Zone AND you can still stay away from other highly processed foods (anything with flour, corn syrup, sugar, etc in it).

Judging will be based on body composition changes and not your food log but you must keep a public food log to be eligible. The food logs help us coach you, help everyone get ideas for meals/recipes, and keep us all accountable.

You might check-out the Soy Zone book by Dr. Sears.

    Eric,

Just bring in a check. I have temporarily removed online registration. Apparently the system won’t let me sell “products” online that don’t weigh anything.

    Sorry about that.

“…for those who tried to eat meat and hated it…”

    Chris,

I didn’t think these kinds of statements were allowed in CrossFit… I hope you will take appropriate action.

Chris C — in true CrossFit spirit, I tried, My apologies for letting you, and the entire CrossFit community, down ;-)
