At the Program Design Seminar yesterday, Buck asked how he would/should explain Emerfit. This question caught my attention – I could not immediately answer this question. I thought about it over that last few hours. I humbly submit my answer.
“Why Emerfit?†-Or- “Why do I give my hard earned money to train at Emerfit when there are other great gyms/trainers/programs available?â€
While there are many ingredients that make Emerfit enjoyable, effective, and engaging (Pull up bars, Barbells, Kettle Bells, Air Squats, familiar WODs, White boards, Transparent programming research, custom athlete programming, well established group training format, cool peer group, and that Clock), there is one ingredient that sets Emerfit apart from the many gyms/programs that I have been at (aka paid hard earned money to attend) over my life:
The Emerfit Coach.
Emerfit has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing and developing outstanding coaching for the client, the Emerfit athlete. I deliberately used of the word “athlete†(singular) in contrast to “athletes†(plural) in the previous sentence. The Emerfit Coach does not just know my name; the coach is continuously focused on my safety, knows my goals, and is committed to my progress.
An Emerfit Coach is actively engaged at every workout. The Emerfit coach’s expert eye and mind are on the athlete every workout. Often (yes, I still have a lot to learn) the Emerfit coach has corrected or optimized a fundamental movement for me during a group workout. Recently Coach Jeff helped with my Back Squat, Coach Chris helped with my Power Squat Clean. This attention to my form will keep me safe, healthy, and effective.
The Emerfit Coach is invested in my goals. This past summer Coach Brown developed a custom program to prepare me for a trip to Longs Peak. This program was designed with both general strength /conditioning work with my need for individual targeted rehab work (single leg strength and balance work). This program enabled me to successfully gain the summit – and enjoy the view!
The Emerfit Coach is hungry for new methods and means to improve the efficacy of the Emerfit Athlete. Pre-hab, Re-hab, foam rolling, the Texas Method, and 5-3-1, Strength Bias: these are all tools and techniques that have improved the performance of the Athletes at Emerfit over the past year. Emerfit is a true “open source†program, using what works and not allowing adherence to a restrictive workout paradigm to hinder the development of excellent programs and Athletes.
I am and will continue to be a part of Emerfit.
