How did you hear about Emergent Fitness?
Emergent Fitness did a Corporate Fitness program at our worksite and I was immediately hooked on the workouts because they kicked my butt. After visiting the gym and meeting the trainers and the other members, joining was a no-brainer.
How is your training different than your past gym experiences?
I’m originally from upstate New York and moved here 5 years ago. I have cross country skiing and bike raced for over 12 years and have been “working out” religiously for over 28 years. My main focus was relatively long cardio workouts – runs, biking, and XC skiing, with occasional weight lifting sprinkled in. I thought I was still in pretty good shape until I started with Emergent Fitness. I learned otherwise! It took me a while to get used to doing shorter, more intense workouts. I used to think that a workout had to be a full 60 minutes or more to be effective. No longer…
What is your biggest reason for being and Emergent Fitness member?
I never bought into workout programs or group fitness. I always did my own thing. EmerFit has shown me that group workouts can be more fun and challenging and have made working out enjoyable again. I love the comradery of the workouts and the knowledge gained from the trainers.
The biggest lifestyle change I’ve made since joining EmerFit is in my nutritional choices and habits. I always thought I was eating right, until I read Chris’ recommendations and learned otherwise. My cholesterol has dropped from 289 to <200 in the past year and in the process I found that I really enjoy cooking.
Have you tried new activities since you started training at Emergent Fitness?
I still run on days that I’m not at the gym and have shaved minutes off my run times since starting at EmerFit. I also enjoy fixing up my house and find that doing things like digging holes to plant trees or hauling heavy things is easier. I’m mindful of proper lifting mechanics learned at EmerFit when doing hard work.
What are some of your Favorite Movements?
Hmmm…if I had to pick one, I liked the 10 rounds of (30 sec max burpees\30 sec rest). Sick, I know!
What are some of your Least Favorite Movements?
Kipping pull-ups. Old shoulder injury from lifting improperly (before EmerFit) is holding me back on that one.
What are your future training or sports goals?
My goals are to age in good health and never having to stop doing the physical activities I enjoy being able to do.
I have always wanted to:
Live completely “off the grid”
One word people use to describe me:
Assiduous
Outside of the gym, I like to:
Ride my motorcycle
Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me:
I rode my bicycle across Austria
Favorite physical activity outside of EmerFit:
Relaxing at the park on a sunny day with my dog Sophi
Favorite place to eat in Fort Collins:
Rodizio
Proudest accomplishment:
Cross Country Ski Ultra Marathon – the mental challenge of just finishing!
