Schedule
The Trainer Development Course is offered twice each year and is currently limited to 5 students. The exact schedule of lectures and other sessions varies based on the schedules of the students participating. However, applicants should plan to spend approximately 10 hours a week in lecture or practical sessions. Some weeks may also contain additional homework or self-study.
Testing
Successful graduation from the TDC will require passing a written test and two practical tests. The practical tests will include coaching an athlete through a private lesson and running a group class. Students who fail any of the tests will be given a detailed evaluation and the opportunity to re-test at a reduced price.
Continuing Education
Since we expect the content of the TDC to evolve overtime past participants will receive updates in the form of invitations of new lecture material, recordings of new lecture material and copies of updated class notes. Emergent Fitness LLC also intends to develop Coach Development Course which will represent a second level of certification focused on advanced programming topics, specialty training, and assisting clients in integrated fitness goals with their other life and career goals. Finally, participants will be required to periodically re-test and to complete continuing education programs which need not be offered by Emergent Fitness LLC.
Instructors
The content of the TDC was developed by and is presented by Emergent Fitness Founder and CEO Chris Brown. Chris has been working as a coach for over 7 years. He was one of the first CrossFit Level II trainers and opened the 52nd CrossFit Affiliate. Chris has spent over 10,000 hours coaching and studying the art of coaching. Chris has served as an instructor for both CrossFit HQ’s Level 1 Certification and DragonDoor’s Russian Kettlebell Challenge certifications.
